BIC measures the impact on the environment

To understand the impact of its products on the environment, BIC has implemented life cycle studies and ecodesign methods.

Because BIC products are not toxic and contain few materials, the environmental impact at the end of their life is minimal. That is certainly calling the paradox of our products “disposable”.

We have calculated that the fuel consumed by a low-powered car over 100 km requires as much oil as needed to produce the plastic for 3,200 BIC Cristal pens, which offer more than three generations of writing.

The life cycle assessment of our BIC Cristal pens reveals that the disposal at the end of the pen’s life only amounts to less than 0.2 percent of the total impact. 90.45 percent of their environmental impact results from the use of materials, essentially of 5 grams per unit of plastic materials, which contributes to the depletion of a nonrenewable natural resource, namely crude oil.
