From to do to done
Do you spend a lot of time sitting at your desk? Would you like to do more exercise but work and home commitments make it impossible to find the time? We know that posture related health problems are growing due to the sedentary nature of many jobs and in 2006 nearly half a million people in the UK suffered from some form of RSI*. That’s why Leitz, the high performance brand of filing and desk top accessories, has launched the Office Games campaign to improve your fitness and well-being in the office and at your desk.
Leitz are setting the pace in this Olympic year by linking up with Sharron Davies, ex Olympic swimmer and one of the UK’s leading female athletes. Sharron has produced a comprehensive series of ‘at-your-desk’ toning exercises, which will be emailed to your desktop monthly throughout 2008. These simple exercises can be performed at and around your desk. They only take a few minutes a day to do but have been designed to create a greater feeling of personal achievement, satisfaction and empowerment.
The results of an independent survey recently commissioned by Leitz confirmed that 97% of office workers spend over 50% of their working day sitting at their desk. Two thirds of you spend more than 75% of your time sitting down and only 6% move their body position regularly.
Even more alarming, just 19% take a break from their desk every hour, a further 21% only leave their desk to go for lunch and 3% stay there all day without getting up at all!
However, 65% said that if they exercised before work, they felt better during the day. When asked how exercise effected their work, they said that it made them happier, more efficient, gave them the energy to take on more work and to cope with stress, resulting in less days off sick.
Sharron comments,
“We all know from the media, that a lack of movement on a flight can cause DVT and the same applies if you sit at your desk without moving all day. To relieve tension build-up in your neck and shoulders, do gentle circles and lifts with them. Combine this with a few deep breaths to get the oxygen flowing better and move at least every hour from your desk for a quick stretch. Try not to cross your legs, which puts a lot of pressure on your lower back over time and put a note on your computer screen with “posture” in bold print to remind you to sit up tall”
If you would like to get fitter, happier and more productive without leaving your workplace, then all you have to do is register on the www.leitz.com/officegames web site to receive Sharron’s monthly fitness emails. At the same time you can take the Leitz product fitness test, play the Leitz Office Game, enter the prize draw to win a trip for 2 to the Bejing Olympics, browse through the Leitz product portfolio and request samples.
