New Fathers Get Better Paternity Leave

Great news for all working mums and dads across the UK - the government has announced plans to extend paternity leave.

At the moment new fathers can take 2 weeks paid leave but changes taking effect on 3 April 2011 will mean they’re entitled to take 6 months leave, with 3 of those months being paid.

Mums returning to work from 6-12 months after their childs birth can also transfer part of their remaining entitlement to fathers too.

However the downside will mean creating more red tape and expense for companies which is likely to hit smaller firms hardest.
